MAKOI Bulldogs defeated Namatakula Raiders 16-10 in the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup premier grade competition at the USP grounds in Suva yesterday.
In the other match, USP Islanders beat Police Sharks 14-10 in the other premier grade quarter-final.
Fiji National Rugby League chief executive officer Timoci Naleba said they were working towards the Kalawa program for 2017, 2021 and 2025.
“The local players play an important role towards the preparation of the Rugby League World Cup,” he said.
“We do not want to neglect local players. We are still giving them the chance to perform well and be included in the final 22-member team. The doors are still open for them”
Meanwhile, Namatakula Raiders coach Isoa Bati said: “The players did their best, but some of the decisions they made contributed towards the loss.
“What they learned during training they did not do on the field. We will go back and try to come back stronger next season.”
