Do not rely on what politicians say, they always say things to further political mileage, says Fisheries Minister Semi Koroilavesau.

He made the comment in response to questions from this newspaper about his Facebook post in relation to the iTaukei Land Trust (Budget Amendment) Act 2021.

In the post, Mr Koroilavesau said “Some of our people just read comments or watch TikTok and take that as the whole truth.”

“They need to do their research and read and don’t rely on what politicians say,” he said.

“Politicians will always say things to further their political mileage.

“It is obvious to me that individuals are not prepared to do their own research.”

He also said in the last two general elections and over the past seven years, a lot of lies and huge amounts of misinformation about the iTaukei people and their land were spread by politicians during their campaign.

Mr Koroilavesau claimed when probed, they could not give straight answers about what they were alleging.

“Now they will come up with further lies and the cycle of untruth will continue and we will never learn.”
