STAFF at the Golden Age Home in Samabula, Suva treated residents to a day of entertainment and feasting as part of Diwali celebrations.

They worked with the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha Fiji and Digicel to put the event together.

Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation senior welfare officer Neelum Kumar said the event catered for 55 residents.

“This is an annual event and it is always good to see our residents happy,” she said.

“We have 44 residents who are Hindus, this is out of the total number of residents we have here with us. Since they won’t be with their families for Diwali, we have stepped in.”

Digicel head of information technology Amit Ahalawat said about 20 of their staff members were part of the celebrations.

“This Diwali we should be spreading love and happiness to those that need it most and residents of Golden Age Home are among those people,” he said.
