Divine Mercy Sunday is a time of spiritual empowerment for me and my family, says Susana Evening.

The 78-year-old Ono-i-Lau native was among hundreds of members of the Catholic Church who took part in a procession through the streets of Suva to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Divine Mercy in Fiji last Sunday.

“Every year, I take part in this procession and it’s a journey of faith along with other members of the church,” she said.

The mother of six said she had participated in the march since it was first celebrated in Fiji in 1996.

“I’m happy to be part of this year’s celebration and I will continue to be a part of it for as long as my body allows it.”

The Feast of Divine Mercy is celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter and worshipers commemorate by observing the Hour of Mercy at 3pm, which according to the Catholic Church was the time of Jesus Christ’s death at Calvary Hill.
