HE may be 15 years old but it has not stopped Divesh Kumar from dreaming big.
The Nadi youngster wants to become a professional golf player and compete on the world stage.
And he draws his inspiration from uncle, Dinesh Chand, a professional golfer who plays mainly on the Japan Golf Tour.
Chand was among Fijians who competed in last month’s Fiji International tournament at Natadola.
Later that month, Kumar was crowned the new Fiji Junior Golf Champion at the Fiji Golf Club in Suva.
And he said this was his first step towards becoming a professional player.
“I have been playing since I was 11 years old,” the Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College student said.
“In Nadi, I compete at the Nadi Airport and Denarau Golf Club and I aim to become a professional player just like my uncle.”
Kumar said winning the junior competition had fuelled his desire to achieve more success.
“I think the win is my first step towards becoming a professional player and that means I have to take a lot of steps.
“I am willing to work hard, train and compete regularly in order to become a better player.
“With more competition I am sure I will become better.”
Kumar is trained by Coral Coast-based golfer Jimmy Liuta who also trains other youngsters in the Nadi-Sigatoka corridor.
