District players, officials help in the COVID-19 fight

FIJI Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf has praised the efforts of district players and officials who are doing their part in ensuring that Fijians are protected during the current pandemic situation in the country.

“A lot of our players and officials are members of the health ministry, the police the military and we are grateful and they put themselves in danger’s way every day and we should be thankful for their services and sacrifices,” Yusuf said.

Police Services Response Unit and Rewa Football player Tevita Waranivalu was on duty at the checkpoint at Sawani yesterday.

Fiji football has also done its part in providing refreshments for law enforcers on the various checkpoints as well as frontline workers.

“It’s just small things to show our appreciation of the hard work they provide.”

Meanwhile, with the extended 14 days stand down period expected to lift on May 9, Yusuf said they were looking at alternative dates to resume competition.

“It will force our competition back towards late May and we will only resume when the all clear is given by the Ministry of Health, ” he said.
