Discussion on intersection of women, business and human rights

A ONE day workshop aimed at developing guidance to assist both state and business enterprises with practical recommendation for the protection of women rights in the business context was opened yesterday in Suva.According to Deputy Representative of Office of the United Nations High Commission of Human Rights Patrick Marega Castellan, the Gender lens to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights workshop focuses on the intersection of business with human rights and its impact on women.
Mr Castellan said the project seeks to support and complement broader efforts to combat gender discrimination including discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity
Meanwhile while opening the workshop Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa said all rights of every Fijian citizen was guaranteed under the Constitution and this is complemented by the establishment of the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission.
She said the consultations at the workshop are crucial to eliminating the various forms of violation of women’s human rights in our country, from the home to the workplace.
