THE Fiji Red Cross Society received yet another boost to its work on disaster preparedness.
The society received a cheque for $29,511.80 from Mobil Oil (Fiji) last week.
Red Cross director general Filipe Nainoca commended the company for the contribution, saying the funds would be used to purchase a solar system, TFL Easy Tel and IP phones for the upgrade of HF radio and telephone communication equipment in their 16 branches.
“This is a huge donation and support, which Fiji Red Cross is very grateful for and I am sure that the communities who will benefit from these very generous donations will agree during natural disasters that this is a very valuable donation,” he said
Mobil Oil Australia Pty Ltd retail and lead country manager (Fiji and SW Pacific) Patrick Bulaon said the donation was another step towards continuing their support.
“We recognise that the need does not only come with natural disasters, but there is a lot of work that goes on throughout the year that the Fiji Red Cross Society does, especially in planning for an emergency and we are happy to continue our support because we know when a disaster strikes, Fiji Red Cross is always there to assist the communities,” Mr Bulaon said.
“We are very grateful for the work Fiji Red Cross Society has done.”
The company has been assisting the society in past years in areas of disaster response work and now in disaster preparedness.
