DILKUSHA Home today celebrated its 115th anniversary since its establishment in 1904.

While officiating at the opening of Dilkusha Week, Methodist of Fiji and Rotuma president Rev Dr Epineri Vakadewavosa said to date, the home had 34 children under its care.

“Eight orphans and 27 other children are from broken families, children of school age attend educational institutions in this area,” Mr Vakadewavosa said.

He said an increase in the number of children in Fiji faced a serious challenge about their welfare.

“More and more such children need help in our communities, the situation is urgent. I raise this point here and now but I suggest that it be addressed substantively.”

The theme of the anniversary is taken from the book of Mathew 25: 34-40 which states: “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me.”

The children displayed items and also prepared a separate cake to wish Rev Dr Vakadewavosa well for his 70th birthday.
