Digger operator allegedly impersonates cop

A DIGGER operator who allegedly impersonated a police officer was remanded in custody by the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday.

It is alleged that Bobby Salesh impersonated a police officer to obtain a financial advantage of $11,500 from a person for the purpose of providing a taxi permit.

The 41-year-old man is charged with one count of impersonation and 14 counts of obtaining a financial advantage by deception.

The alleged incident occurred between October 18, 2016 and November 16, 2017.

Magistrate Charles Ratakele has remanded Mr Salesh after police prosecutor Constable Setareki Mocevakaca objected to his bail on the grounds that he had similar pending matters before the Nasinu court.

Mr Ratakele has informed Mr Salesh to file a formal bail application.

The case has been adjourned to June 3, 2019.
