‘Different brain rate’ for expatriates, says Vosarogo

Government seems to be paying a “different brain rate” when getting expatriates to take up leading roles in statutory bodies, by giving them huge salaries when compared with the salaries of locals who are appointed to similar roles.

The People’s Alliance party candidate for the 2022 polls Filimoni Vosarogo said this during a campaign meeting in Valelevu on Tuesday.

He said their party would terminate all contracts for CEOs at statutory bodies and permanent secretaries when they entered government.

“We are going to re-advertise them because the intention is to give these jobs to Fijians,” Mr Vosarogo said.

“There is an abundance of wisdom and intelligence in Fiji, it’s right in front of us but government chooses to ignore them. But then they take up bigger roles in other countries across the region and these are people that Fiji invested in.

“We need to retain people to build up capacity of this nation in the Pacific.”

He claimed one particular statutory body brought in a CEO from England who was sitting on a salary of more than a half a million dollars.

“I knew the locals’ pay, but when someone from overseas comes they pay for a different brain rate, this are the kinds of things that should help you understand which party to vote for.”
