DEVELOPMENT is all about partnership and the Government has a role in that.

Minister for Agriculture and Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services Inia Seruiratu said this while closing the two-week Artificial Insemination training at Tailevu Hotel, Korovou last Friday.

Mr Seruiratu said Government is creating policies and providing the financial support to some extent and is also coordinating with the expertise and technical experts.

He said the dairy industry will recover aggressively after the outbreak of the Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) and Brucellosis in dairy cattle.
“TB and Brucellosis are a fact in agriculture and there are high risks involved in agriculture like in any other business but it doesn’t mean that we sit down and accept the situation,” Mr Seruiratu said.

He called on all stakeholders, who also had very important roles to play, to collaborate with each other to further develop the industry as Government could only do so much with its available resources.

The two-weeks training on Artificial Insemination (AI) was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and was conducted by the Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC) New Zealand with 21 participants from the Ministry of Agriculture, farmers, Prime Consultant and the Fiji Corporative Dairy Company Limited (FCDCL).
