PACIFIC top woman weight-lifting referee Della Shaw-Elder will be officiating at the 2017 Pacific Mini Games and 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Shaw-Elder, 42, has been part of Weightlifting Fiji for more than two decades now starting as an athlete and then she started coaching the athletes before becoming a technical official.
“I am the only female referee in the Pacific and I want to see more female technical officials coming up, not only from Fiji, but from the region,” she said.
“The challenge is that I have not seen the venue, but I know everything is going to be well.
“I have seen the entries and there will be very quick competitions as we do not even have more than 10 weight-lifters in our category.
Shaw-Elder was a former 100 metre sprinter and hurdler.
“As for Commonwealth Games, it is going to be my first Commonwealth Games as a technical official,” she said.
“I have gained a lot of experience after I officiated with experienced officials in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.”
The Pacific Mini Games will be from December 4-15 in Vanuatu.
