The Fiji Labour Party delegates conference in Lautoka yesterday passed a resolution calling for the removal of Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem from the position.

The delegates also resolved the party take legal action on this matter if the Constitutional Offices Commission (CoC) fails to investigate Mr Saneem.

The resolution states the CoC to appoint a Tribunal under Section 137 of the Constitution to investigate the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem “for misbehaviour warranting his removal”.

“The conference expresses concern that the Prime Minister, as the chairman CoC, has not acknowledged or responded in any manner to the written request for the appointment of the Tribunal, made more than three months ago,” states the FLP resolution.

“The conference is satisfied that there is sufficient cause in the interest of ensuring a free and fair election in 2022/23 that Mohammed Saneem’s alleged misconduct and misbehaviour in office be dealt with in accordance with the requirement of the law.

“The conference, therefore, directs the party to take appropriate legal action to resolve the matter in the interest of justice, fair play and the conduct of free and fair general elections in 2022/23.”

Questions were sent to Mr Saneem yesterday.
