The Ministry of Health is working on solutions to resolve the delayed payment of village nurses, says Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong.

His comment follows concerns raised during a talanoa session with Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in Wailevu Village, Cakaudrove.

Nacodreudreu Village health worker Ana Titibuna had told Mr Sayed-Khaiyum that some of them had not been paid since February last year.

When they enquired with the Ministry of Health, she said they were told their pay had been delayed because they had not signed the contracts although they had not received it.

On this issue, Dr Fong said it was a matter of process efficiency.

“Apparently, their payment involves papers being submitted on time and passed along,” he said. “The team is working on solution.”
