Delainamasi, Nalawa win

DELAINAMASI Government School is the girls under-10 champion and Nalawa Central School won in the boys division of the Fiji National Rugby League Primary Schools final at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Their final was part of the FNRL Gala Day and the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League grand final.

Delainamasi defeated Nadovi 20-8 and its captain Adi Varanisese Sadrau said: ‘The other team had tall girls and were fast, but I am happy for our girls because they really played their hearts out there. We may not be big in size and tall in height, but the passion of the game made us win.”

Nalawa, on the other hand, drew with Sigatoka Methodist Primary School 8-8 and was awarded the win because they scored first.

Nalawa coach Suliasi Cakautabu said they had no ground to play on and they did not prepare well.

“The boys did extremely well. It hasn’t been easy for us in terms of resources and training gear, and we hope that next year we will improve,” he said.

Nalawa plans to field a girls team in next year’s competition.
