Fiji Kulas star striker and professional footballer Trina Davis began trials with New Zealand’s Wellington Phoenix Football Club yesterday.

The 21-year-old made her first appearance for Fiji in the 2018 OFC Women’s Nations Cup qualifiers where she scored five goals against Vanuatu in their first match.

In February of 2021, she signed her first pro contract with ASA Tel Aviv, a football club in Israel.

The following year, she signed another contract with Puerto Rico Sol FC where she played in the top-tier league, Superior Femenino de la Liga Puerto Rico.

Davis was born and raised in Marysville, Washington, in the United States of America, and has made seven appearances for Fiji’s national women’s team.

Trina, who has regularly started for the Digicel Fiji Kulas side, has captivated the attention of football enthusiasts with her exceptional performances on the pitch.

“I’m very blessed and grateful for this opportunity, and I am excited to be back on the field playing again,” she said.

For Davis, her family are her biggest motivators and supporters in her career in football, adding that having positive people around you is vital.

“They always lift me up and support me to keep playing and to enjoy everything opportunity I’m given.”

Her journey follows in the footsteps of another Fiji footballer star Roy Krishna, the captain of the Digicel Fiji National Team.

The “Wonder Boy” spent five years with the Phoenix where he carved his name as the club’s all-time scorer, receiving the A League Golden Boot and the Johnny Warren Medal for Best Player.

The excitement resonates beyond Davis, as two more Fijian footballers gear up for their own trials in the coming weeks.

Angeline Rekha, a rising star from the Young Kulas and a member of the Fiji U19 team, is also set for trials at Wellington Phoenix next month.

Similarly, Faazil Ali, a key figure in Fiji’s U20 World Cup squad that competed in Argentina, is set to make his mark as he embarks on his trial concurrently.

In her closing remarks, Davis encourage young female players to never give up despite how difficult the journey becomes.

“To all those young girls out there, never give up.

“Keep fighting for what you want, and use negativity as motivation in achieving you goals and what’s best for you because there will be bumps along the road but don’t let it stop you.”

Meanwhile, Davis’s teammates Cema Nasau and captain Sofi Diyalowai, are wrapping up their time with the Orlando Pride who competes in the top-tier National Women’s Soccer League in the US.
