THE Rewa football side will bank on the three Solomon Islands players to boost its performance during the Courts Inter-District Championship (IDC) that starts tomorrow at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Rewa suffered a major blow after some of its key players were transferred to other districts during the players transfer windows, but coach Lorima Dau will be out to prove critics wrong as he directs his new set of players combined with overseas reps in the IDC.

Solomon Islands midfielders Charlie Otainao, Tony Kalteck and Keloby Benty will boost the Delta Tigers as they claw their way back to football supremacy in the country.

Despite their downfall in the Vodafone Premier League, Dau believes his side can reach the final.

This will be the former national defender’s IDC as coach.

“To be on the sideline as a coach and not playing is a challenge because as a player, I had a different view of the game. Now, as a coach, it is a different view altogether. It’s challenging, but I know there are people who are supporting us,” Dau said.

The Rewa football team has won the IDC nine times and reached the final seven times.

Its last win was in 2010 when it defeated Lautoka in the final 3-1 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

“I have a mixture of experienced and young players. There are three overseas reps who will boost the team’s performance, and the morale of the boys towards the preparation of the IDC.

“I will treat each game as a final because there will be tough competitions from other teams. We will work hard on our techniques to counter our opponents.”

Rewa will face Tavua tomorrow at 1.30pm and against Suva on Saturday at 5pm. Its final Group B pool match against Nadi on Sunday is expected to start at 3pm.
