FIJI Olympian Masivesi Dakuwaqa who signed with the Canberra Raiders earlier this year, wants another shot at the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team spot for the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the World Cup in San Francisco next year.
The 23-year-old played for MC Saunaka during the Raka 7s tournament over the weekend.
Dakuwaqa said he wanted to have more game time to make him eligible to claim a spot for next year.
“To be able to be given a chance to play for Saunaka is a great opportunity for me to set a platform for myself,” Dakuwaqa said.
“I want to secure a spot for the Commonwealth Games and the 7s World Cup next year which is the whole aim for my preparation.
“It has been a tough journey for me playing both 7s and league but I know I have a good chance to make it to the squad and with faith and hard work, I can do it.
“Playing with the Saunaka boys is nothing new; we’ve been playing together for the past years and the challenges that we face is trying to get ourselves adapt to the system of playing 7s.
“It has been intense weeks of training – peparing for the two-day event but with hard work and determination from the players nothing is impossible.
“I would like to wish the players the very best in Dubai and I know different players will bring in a lot of things and together we can overcome those obstacles,” he said.
Dakuwaqa who started his career playing ruby locally was with Tokatoka Westfield Dragon 7s team which is Saunaka and plays in the National Rugby League in Australia.
