MAIKA Sivo’s father, Joeli Nawalu challenged the Nadroga Kaji rugby team players during the team’s awards night at Sigatoka District School on Friday.

He motivated and inspired the players through the experience his son, Maika has accomplished in Australia.

Sivo is now one of the most talked about National Rugby League players in Australia.

His father shared his ruugby journey which started from the Kaji rugby level in the Nadroga Province to the under-20 and to the World Rugby Junior World Cup.

Nawalu acknowledged the players, teachers and families for inviting him to be one of the guests at their function.

“I thank God for this opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with what I’ve seen through my son,” he said.

“Nadroga is known to be the solid foundation of Fiji rugby and many have grown in rugby locally and internationally.

“I hope that from this gathering, we will see a future Maika Sivo from this lot and I know it’s possible.

“However it takes commitment, sacrifice and hard work to achieve a better and brighter future in rugby and it is not impossible.

“Keep in mind to trust the Lord and let him be your compass to lead you throughout your journey.”

Nawalu represented his son Sivo, who was supposed to surprise the Nadroga U12 Kaji rugby team on their awards night in Sigatoka, but couldn’t make it because of this weekend’s NRL rounds.

He, however, sent his best wishes to the players and their families.
