Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and the High Commission of India in Fiji, organised a webinar on folk music in Fiji last Saturday in Suva.
The event was held in collaboration with Pravasi Sansar, the International Hindi magazine published in New Delhi, India.
Among those who participated in the online webinar were Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Shreemati Padmaja, renowned Indian folk singe Malini Awasthi, eminent educationalist Dr Brij Lal and folk singer Vidya Bindu Singh.
Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre director Santosh Mishra said the participation of 98- year-old local folk and bhajan singer Sadhu Gauri Shankar was the highlight of the program and the audience was captivated by his performance.
Various folk singers from Fiji participated in the online webinar on folk music and performed all kinds of folk music including Sohar, Bidesia, Faag, Pachara, Prabhat, Chauki Bhajan, Vivah Geet and Kaharwa.
