Update: 6:06PM VILLAGERS of Votua in Bua were reminded of the critical role women play in the development of the society.
Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa who recently opened the Senivadra Resource Centre at the village also reiterated the role women play in improving livelihoods and also encouraged women to contribute to discussions on village development.
“I encourage the vanua, faith based organisations, men and women’s groups to continue working together for women’s development in the community and I am delighted to see the support of the vanua and particularly of the men in establishing the resource centre which will assist the women with their weekly meetings and handicraft training,” Mrs Vuniwaqa said.
She also highlighted the increasing statistics on gender violence and stated that a concerted effort was needed to combat the issue.
