Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says the ministry is reviewing its data in order to confirm that Fiji does not have any COVID-19 community transmission case.

“I would like to say that we have reviewed our data, look at what’s happening in Fiji and we have a reason to believe that technically we don’t have any community transmission case of coronavirus,” he said.

Dr Waqainabete said it had been 159 days since the last COVID-19 community case.

“Our teams on the ground move into the community to make sure we are reaching the unreachable.”

He said the ministry would continue to monitor communities through strengthening its surveillance systems.

“We continue with the community surveillance in the fever clinics, we have based surveillance. The clinical and public health teams are conducting community outreach through the support of the Government and non-government organisations.”

On Thursday, the ministry received more than $700,000 worth of medical supplies from the World Health Organization.

Dr Waqainabete said the supplies would help to further strengthen the country’s capacity to fight COVID-19.
