The Bose Vanua o Ra has ordered all villages in Ra to observe a curfew between 5pm to 5am daily.

Tui Nalawa Ratu Epeli Niudamu said this was important to protect villagers from COVID-19 as the Ministry of Health and Medical Services try to detect the origin of infections in the province.

“All villagers and settlements in Ra should abide by the protocols and don’t think our remoteness can protect us as remoteness provides no protection when people are circulating within our province,” Ratu Epeli said.

“This virus is already in our province and our people should take this seriously.”

“As of today, the Bose Vanua o Ra have place a curfew or vakatatabu from 5pm to 5am for all the villages in the Ra province and this curfew will be strongly monitored by village headmen.”

He said villagers have been told to conduct prayers and fasting within their own families.

“This is not an easy time in the history of Ra province and we as people of Ra  – ‘kai Ra’ – should all unite and assist our Government by taking all the necessary steps in stopping the spread of COVID-19.”
