Trucks carrying essential supplies will now be allowed to cross the lockdown borders.

This, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport, Disaster Management and Meteorological Services who said all trucks crossing the lockdown border would need to be decontaminated at the border before crossing.

The ministry said trucking companies that wanted to send their trucks across the borders should provide details of the driver(s) driving the truck(s).

The ministry also said a driver would need to drive the truck from its point of origin to the lockdown border after which a separate driver was to be organised to drive the truck outside the border to the destination.

“In the event of a specialised vehicle, such as fuel tankers, garbage disposal and construction vehicle, to name a few, that can only be driven by a qualified driver,” the ministry said in a statement.

“The driver of the vehicle should not get off the cab, the vehicle will need to be sanitised at the border. The driver will drive the vehicle directly to the site and offloading will be conducted without the driver getting off the vehicle.”
