THE ORGANISERS of the 2019 ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards (FETA) gala dinner have decided to call off the annual event in the face of growing challenges faced by the tourism sector due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement today, FETA Board of Trustees chairperson Bill Whiting said the decision was made during an emergency meeting between board members earlier this week.

“We have had to make a very tough decision to cancel the 23rd Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards gala dinner in support of our tourism stakeholders and their employees who are beginning to face very challenging times due to the disruption to travel demand that the COVID-19 virus is having globally,” he said.

“We could not go ahead with the gala dinner and party whilst our colleagues and friends in the tourism industry are beginning to face really tough times.”
