Prison officers who tested positive in Tavua were not in quarantine at the Water Authority of Fiji Tavua Depot.

This was clarified by the Water Authority of Fiji after social media posts claimed that the COVID positive officers were billeted at their Tavua facility.

The Authority refuted the claims explaining that the depot was never used as a quarantine facility.

WAF Board Chairman Bhavesh Kumar said it was extremely disappointing to see people on social media spreading unverified misinformation for the sake of clicks and notoriety.

“More than ever, during these difficult times, we need to be very careful with the information we find on social media,” he said.

“Unfortunately, there are individuals who are seeking to take advantage of trusting Fijians and spread misinformation for personal gain.”

Only believe information from reliable and official sources, such as WAF’s social media or the Fijian Government and its Ministries.”
