The vanua Nawaka has placed a curfew or ‘vakatatabu’ from 5pm to 5am.

The restriction is a response to the ban on public events and order for social distancing in light of the COVID-19 coronavirus situation in Fiji.

Momo na Tui Nawaka Ratu Asaeli Driu has given his full endorsement and the curfew will be enforced by the vanua and monitored by the village headman.

“This is to protect my people and create awareness on the seriousness of the coronavirus,” Ratu Asaeli said.

“It is also an effort to protect our children and the elderly,” he said.

The Tui Nawaka hopes people will respect and adhere to the decision by the vanua.

The curfew started on Tuesday early this week.
