The lockdown of Lautoka should not affect the supply of the agricultural produce to the area, says Minister for Agriculture Dr Mahendra Reddy.

At a press conference in the past hour, he said staff at the ministry had gone out as far as Suva to source supply of produce for the Lautoka area.

“The lockdown is not affected by the sporadic shortage of agriculture produce to the Lautoka market or satellite markets,” Mr Reddy said.

“In fact, our presence there is addressing the issue of lockdown because we have the reach to come as far as Suva to take it down to Lautoka.”

Yesterday, Lautoka market vendors said the price of produce sold to them were exorbitantly high.

They say they could not buy a variety of produce because they could not afford it.
