Police officers and civilian staff based at the Police Western Division headquarters have been quarantined in their Lautoka-based office following a directive from medical authorities.

Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said the Divisional  Police Commander West, Senior Superintendent of Police Surend Sami, and his staff members were adhering to the directive and would isolate themselves at the headquarters until cleared by medical authorities.

“A senior female officer had recently returned from overseas earlier this month and had undergone the mandatory 14-day isolation period upon her arrival and was given clearance to resume work,” Mr Qiliho said.

“She, however, later displayed symptoms of COVID-19 and has been isolated by medical authorities in a different location.

“SSP Sami and his team continue to operate the functions of the Western Division headquarters from within the confines of the building.”

Fiji presently has five cases of COVID-19.
