The Lautoka confined area lockdown has been extended to next Tuesday.

Fiji’s Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete made the announcement this afternoon saying they made the decision out of an abundance of caution.

“If we lift the restrictions too early and if we miss one person in Lautoka who has contracted the virus, the rest of Viti Levu will be at risk,” Dr Waqainabete said.

According to the Health Ministry, the incubation period for the COVID-19 virus could be as long as 14-days.

Fiji presently has five confirmed cases of COVID-19.
