Fiji Teachers Union has postponed its annual conference that was scheduled to be held next week in Rakiraki.

Secretary General Agni Deo Singh said the postponement was necessary due to the restrictions on movements placed by Government related to the current COVID-19 outbreak.

“We were expecting 600 members from around Fiji to attend,” he said.

“While we are disappointed the conference has been called off, we are mindful that it can’t be held under current circumstances.”

He said the national executives will meet soon to decide on new date.

“Most probably it is going to be the August school holidays.”

“Union work will not be affected in anyway at this time.”
