Fiji’s largest Hindu organisation, the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha, is urging everyone to get vaccinated and to support the Government in the fight against COVID-19.

President Sarju Prasad said he was concerned about some people discouraging others from taking the AstraZeneca vaccine.

“I am extremely concerned with the attitude of some of our people who are trying to say that the vaccine should not be taken,” he said.

“We must realise that our Government and our frontline workers are doing their very best in providing vaccines to all individuals who are over the age of 18 and to those who are most vulnerable.

“Some people say that it’s not in accordance with their religion.”

Mr Prasad said those who were of that view should realise that all vaccines were made after extensive research.

“These vaccines are made with scientific research and my Sanatan Dharam religion, and I think most religions, complement scientific research because it is there to save people and their lives.

“You can see that the virus has spread over the entire world and millions of people have died.

“I am humbly asking people of this nation to please get vaccinated.”
