Fiji recorded its third COVID-19 death late yesterday afternoon with the passing of case no 125 at the Lautoka Hospital

This has been confirmed by the family of the 53-year old who was admitted at the hospital on April 19 for surgical purposes.

Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services Dr James Fong has also confirmed the death, saying the announcement was delayed because family members needed to be informed first.

At a press conference yesterday, Dr Fong said the patient developed some respiratory symptoms and was the source of infection for two doctors at the hospital.

He said the patient’s condition began deteriorating yesterday and he was moved into the intensive care unit and swabbed for the virus – and subsequently returned a positive result.
