Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services contact tracing team is tracking down people who made contact with an elderly man in Labasa who has been tested positive for COVID-19.

At a press conference in Suva this hour, Fiji’s Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said the man failed to follow the Government quarantine measures after returning from a religious event in India.

He stayed at a settlement in Nabua for five days, where he contracted the virus to a family member and his wife.

He then travelled to Labasa and he stayed in Soasoa.

“The family of this man has been taken into isolation,” Mr Bainimarama said.

The elderly man is in stable condition at the isolation unit in Labasa.
