Sixteen new COVID-19 cases have been reported by Fiji’s Health and Medical Services Ministry.

Seven of those new cases were recorded on December 11, five were recorded on December 12, and four new cases were reported in the last 24 hours ending 8am yesterday (December 13).

Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong said overall for this second wave, there had been 52,523 cases recorded, with 71 per cent of the cases from the Central Division, 28 per cent from the West, and 1 per cent of the cases from the Eastern and Northern divisions.

No COVID death was reported by the ministry.

There have been a total of 697 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the country, with 695 of those deaths recorded during the outbreak that started in April this year.

Meanwhile, Dr Fong said the ministry continued to monitor the outbreak using indicators such as daily case numbers, hospitalisations, test positivity, and deaths.
