COVID-19 Fiji: Health ministry reports 29 new cases

Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services has reported 29 new cases of COVID-19 since the last update announced mid-week.

According to the ministry, four new cases were recorded on May 17, eight new cases were recorded on May 18, and 17 new cases in the last 24 hours ending at 8am on Thursday.

Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong said of the 29 cases recorded, 14 cases were recorded in the Central Division, 13 cases were recorded in the Western Division, and two recorded in the Northern Division.

He said in the seven days until May 18, a total of 28 new cases were recorded in the Central Division, 26 new cases in the Western Division, and one new case in the Northern Division.

“The Central Division cases constitute 67 per cent of the cumulative total cases nationally, with the Western Division making up 28 per cent, 3 per cent in the Northern Division, and 2 per cent in the Eastern Division,” Dr Fong said.

No COVID-related death was reported.
