All remaining staff  at the Fiji Centre for Disease Control have continued to test negative for COVID-19.

This was confirmed in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of Health and Medical Services, Dr James Fong.

Dr Fong said the centre has been fully decontaminated and will resume processing COVID-19 tests from tonight.

“None of the laboratory staff have tested positive to date, which further indicates that the virus was brought in from the community,” Dr Fong said.

“After being given the choice to either enter a quarantine facility or continue work at the CDC, the vast majority of staff have chosen to remain in the CDC and continue running tests,” he said.

“They will continue to be tested regularly during their sequestration period so that any positive case can be identified and isolated early.”
