COVID-19 Fiji: 62 new cases and one death recorded

Fiji has recorded a total of 62 new cases of COVID-19 and a death in the last 48 hours.

Ministry of Health and Medical Services Permanent Secretary Dr James Fong said 34 new cases were recorded on yesterday 28 and 28 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours ending at 8 am this morning.

Dr Fong said this epidemic curve depicts the daily positive cases since the second wave of this outbreak began in April 2021.

He said overall for this second wave, there have been 52,071 cases recorded, with 71 percent of the cases from the Central Division, 28 percent of the cases from the Western Division, and one percent of the cases from the Eastern and Northern Division.

He added that our national seven day rolling average is 24 daily cases calculated for October

Dr Fong said the COVID-19 death is of a 78-year-old man from Navua.

“He was admitted to the CWM Hospital COVID-19 ICU ward with severe respiratory distress. Sadly, he died 16 days later (26/10/2021). He was not vaccinated.

“There have been three deaths of COVID-19 positive patients.

“However, these deaths have been classified as Non-COVID-19 deaths by the doctors, as patients died of serious pre-existing medical conditions.

There have been 674 deaths due to COVID-19 in Fiji, with 672 of these deaths during the outbreak that started in April this year.”
