Fiji has reported 52 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, and two deaths recorded for July 29.

Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong said both COVID-19 deaths were reported from the Central Division – a 79-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman from Suva who both died at home.

He said there had been 17 new recoveries since the last update, and there were now 13,045 active cases.

“There are currently 88 COVID-19 patients admitted to the hospital – 41 patients are admitted at the Lautoka Hospital and 47 are admitted at CWM hospital, St Giles, and Makoi. Six patients are considered to be in severe condition, and four are in critical condition,” Dr Fong said in his COVID-19 update statement issued a few minutes ago.

Dr Fong added that in the last 24 hours, they had not recorded any new case from the maritime zones of Kadavu, Malolo Island, Naviti Island, Waya Island, the Nacula Medical Area, Beqa and Ovalau.

There have been 50,737 cases recorded during the outbreak that started in April 2021.
