Healthcare workers in Fiji have enough to worry about already and when people break quarantine or violate curfew hours, they are making it difficult for them, says Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete.
“I want to stress that our health workers are not just dealing with the virus, they are still responsible for the daily day to day needs of the country,” he said.
“The mothers are giving birth, they are there for them. The kidney patients who receive dialysis, they are there for them. There are people turning up they need emergency operations, they are there for them, and there are Fijians who have heart attacks, they are there for them.
“Every medical need that you can think of, and all of these responsibilities on top of helping contain the global pandemic puts our health care workers under immense pressure.
“They have enough to worry about already without those who are breaking quarantine or violating curfew, so stop making it difficult for them.”
Fiji presently has 14 cases of COVID-19.
