Members of the public are now being warned that anyone not adhering to COVID public health restrictions will be arrested.

This means that if people do not wear mask when out in public and those who do not practice social distancing will be taken to task.

Fiji Police Acting Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said the Force was now strengthening enforcement of the public health measure as published in the gazette.

He said those urgent actions are targeted at ensuring Fijians adhering to the instructions as stipulated under the Public Health Act.

“It was noticed that people still do not adhere to the instructions and not seriously taking into consideration the impact of the pandemic and this has forced the institution to enforce restrictions on the ground from tonight (last night) and taken to task those who still do not comply,” ACP Tudravu said.

“Members of the public are once again reminded that social distancing is important and anyone not following the 2m distancing inside or outside the supermarket in any containment area will be arrested.

“Officers will be closely monitoring businesses and all employees and customers to wear face coverings to enter their premises.

“It is also vital for every driver of a public service vehicle and the traveling passengers who are five years of age or older to wear masks and minibus drivers are to ensure that all passengers in the minibus are physically distanced from each other.”
