Twenty-eight police officers are presently under self-quarantine on Vanua Levu.

Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho revealed this during a press conference in Suva yesterday.

“I have 28 police officers who were on the ship that went across to Vanua Levu with one of our positive cases and they are on self-quarantine at the moment,” he said.

It is understood that these officers had travelled on a ferry from Natovi to Nabouwalu with the ninth case, a 57-year-old man from Labasa, who recently returned from a large religious gathering in New Delhi, India.

Brig-Gen Qiliho said if any of his officers were exposed to any threat of the virus, they would be tested by the Health Ministry and appropriate actions would be taken.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday said Fiji’s disciplined forces would be giving orders, not advice during this time of crisis.

“They won’t tolerate disobedience. So do what you’re told to do. Your life and the lives of those you love depend on it,” he said.
