A LAUTOKA bus company sent 128 workers home on leave without pay after the company grounded its entire fleet yesterday.

Classic Buses Ltd said it had no choice but to take that course of action because of the significant reduction in business after the COVID-19 lockdown came into effect on Thursday.

“We provide service to about 80 per cent of the Lautoka area and we have seen only two to three people travelling in the buses daily,” said operations manager Adnan Mohammed.

“We have grounded all our 60 buses.”

He said the company had no choice and took the measure as a last resort.

Mr Mohammed said he hoped business operators like him and his workers would receive assistance from the Government.
