A 35-YEAR-old immigration officer accused of raping a 21-year-old woman earlier this month has been remanded in custody.
Charged with one count of rape, Pranil Prakash Sen, appeared before Magistrate Peni Dalituicamam at a special court sitting at the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.
Mr Sen was represented by Jiten Reddy who applied for bail for the immigration officer.
In the application, Mr Reddy said his client was willing to comply with any bail restrictions imposed by the court.
He said he had a permanent residential address and was able to provide sureties and a bail bond when requested.
Opposing the application, Police prosecutors argued the accused could interfere with State witnesses and the case was of public interest.
Magistrate Dalituicama will deliver a ruling on bail tomorrow.
