RAPE is one of the most humiliating and distressing crimes.
This was the message conveyed by Suva High Court judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe while sentencing a man convicted of raping his cousin in 2016 to 12 years and six months imprisonment.
The man was found guilty of two counts of rape and three counts of defilement of a young person between 13 and 16 years of age.
Justice Rajasinghe said the complainant was sexually abused by a person who was known to her and this form of sexual exploitation of children by the known adult was a serious offence.
A non-parole period of 10 years and six months has been set.
