THE Sigatoka Magistrates Court yesterday denied bail for former Suva lawyer Shazran Abdul Lateef.

Magistrate Waleen George said the 69-year-old had other matters pending before the Suva Magistrates Court, so it was proper that the same magistrate presiding on his other cases determine bail.

Mr Lateef argued the charge was a fresh one and he had not been found guilty nor convicted of the other charges.

Magistrate George, however, ordered that Mr Lateef be remanded in custody as he had reoffended while out on bail.

He was arrested after a plastic containing white crystal substances believed to be methamphetamine was allegedly found in his possession.

The arrest was made a few nights ago after a raid at his home in Raiwai, Suva.

Police said the seized substance was sent for analysis as investigations continued.

The case has been adjourned to March 9.
