Love certainly knows no bounds even in the midst of a natural disaster that has forced a speech and hearing impaired couple to relocate among 300 villagers.

For 68-year-old Sami Veleko, who married his Sawani, Naitasiri sweetheart five years ago and had two children, living it tough as a result of natural disaster, matters no more.

The couple shifted from their house at Nabavatu, Dreketi in Macuata after cracks were seen on the surface of the village lawn which also affected structures.

Expressing himself in sign language, Mr Veleko said they were doing fine in their tent and life was normal. He takes his five-year-old daughter to preschool every day while his wife, Sereima Malolo, 48, stays at home with their two-year-old son.

Mr Veleko met his wife while working on a relative’s farm in Sawani.

His wife smiled and nodded her head as she indicated how she’s enjoyed her stay so far in Dreketi. A relative Anaseini Sulago said they were a very helpful couple.

“They help out a lot too in the village despite their disability and we’re blessed to have them.”
