THE Fiji Crop and Livestock Council is planning a major workshop in the first week of February to properly re-launch the organisation that will “provide a forum for all of our association council members to essentially present the “state of the industry” to the invited guest.
This was highlighted by FCLC chairman Simon Cole in a press release yesterday.
Mr Cole also welcomed Dr Mahendra Reddy in his new appointment as the Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, Waterway and Environment and said the council was looking forward to working with Dr Reddy and his team in continuing their efforts to help develop the business of farming in Fiji.
He said the council associations that comprised FCLC were presently pigs, yaqona, grazing livestock, dalo, cocoa, ginger, rice, beekeepers, fruit and vegetable, organics, copra, and Fiji Food Exporter Association.
He said that FCLC was a Government initiative created in 2012 by the then Minister of Primary Industry Joketani Cokanasiga in conjunction with private sectors agricultural associations.
It was launched with Government support in 2012 and received further recognition when it was endorsed by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and recognised with an MOU between the Government and FCLC in providing a service to its registered farmers in the organisation.
“Because we represent the private sector in agriculture, Mr Cokanasiga recognised our importance in addressing farmers needs from a commercial perspective.”
