IN its efforts to control the solid waste of the densely populated Nasinu area, the Nasinu Town Council has different collection methods of rubbish.
Council special administrator Mosese Kama said the services the council provided included kitchen waste collection, green waste collection and whitegoods collection.
“The services we provide include kitchen waste collection, which is twice a week, green waste collection which is done once every seven weeks and whitegoods collection on a quarterly basis,” Mr Kama said.
The council has over the years worked closely with the Japanese Government in terms of tackling solid waste management issues.
Mr Kama highlighted that in 2010 and 2015 the Japanese Government had given the council two donations.
“In October 2010 a bagging machine was given to the council from the kind donation of the Japanese Government. In August 2015 our five-tonne compactor truck was also received at the Nasinu Town Council through the kind donation of the Japanese Government,” Mr Kama said.
The council has also worked with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) volunteers who are on a two-year assignment to look after the council’s reduce, reuse and recycle projects in designated schools.
